COLLEGE ADMISSONS
At Certified Tutoring, we help students prepare for college admission tests and provide comprehensive counseling to guide families through college search, selection, and application. To help high school students stay on track, we have created the following year-by-year timetable.
Freshman Year

Meet with a Certified Tutoring advisor to discuss your college goals.

Review your course schedule to ensure enrollment in challenging classes. Top colleges typically require four years of English, mathematics, and science.

Take a model PSAT/NMSQT to prepare for the official test in your junior year.

Plan sophomore-year classes, including Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.

Maintain a high GPA.

Get involved in extracurricular activities.

Sophomore Year

Meet with a Certified Tutoring advisor to review your course schedule and college plans.

Sign up and prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT in October.

Enroll in college preparatory courses, including AP and IB, and take AP/IB exams in May.

Take a model SAT after the October PSAT/NMSQT to begin SAT preparation.

Plan junior-year classes to include AP and IB courses.

Maintain a high GPA.

Continue involvement in extracurricular activities.

Junior Year

Fall:

Meet with a Certified Tutoring advisor to plan your SAT preparation and review AP/IB exams.

Take the PSAT/NMSQT in October and begin preparing for the SAT.

Start college search based on your preferences.

Maintain a high GPA.

Continue participation in extracurricular activities.

Spring:

Take the SAT, AP, and IB exams.

Sign up for College Essays and Admissions courses at Certified Tutoring.

Meet with an advisor to develop a customized college application plan.

Plan senior-year classes, including AP and IB.
-
Maintain a high GPA and stay involved in extracurricular activities.

Senior Year

Fall:

Meet with an advisor to discuss final SAT opportunities (October, November, December).

Write and refine college application essays.

Maintain a high GPA.

Create a calendar to track college application deadlines

Financial aid applications and deadlines
-
Recommendation letters, transcripts, and other required materials

Early Decision/Early Action deadlines

Spring:

Maintain GPA; college acceptances are contingent on final grades.

Keep copies of all submitted application materials, and ensure official transcripts are sent.

Confirm that colleges have received all materials.
-
Submit FAFSA and CSS Profile as early as possible after January 1.
-
Apply for financial aid before deadlines.
-
Submit your letter of acceptance by May 1.
