ACT

The ACT is a widely recognized national college entrance and placement examination, accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the United States. It is designed to measure a student’s knowledge and skills acquired in high school and consists of five subject-area tests:

English
Assesses grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and rhetorical skills. Students are tested on their ability to understand and improve written passages.

Mathematics
Covers algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry. The test emphasizes problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and application of concepts.

Reading
Measures reading comprehension through passages from prose fiction, social science, humanities, and natural science. Students are asked to interpret, analyze, and evaluate information.

Science
Evaluates critical thinking, reasoning, and interpretation of scientific data. The test focuses on data representation, research summaries, and conflicting viewpoints in the context of biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth/space sciences.

Writing (Optional Essay)
The ACT Writing Test measures students’ writing skills and their ability to develop and support an argument. Some colleges require the Writing Test, while others do not. Students should decide whether to take it based on the specific requirements of the colleges they are applying to.

The ACT is a multiple-choice achievement test, scored based on the number of correct answers, with no penalty for guessing. It provides a reliable assessment of a student’s readiness for college-level coursework.
